Since Quadraphenia was her husband Paul’s favourite film of all time, it seemed only fitting to Emma that she should throw him a ‘Mods versus Rockers’ party to celebrate his 40th birthday! Unfortunately, Sting couldn’t be there to help him celebrate, but luckily for Paul, Hog Roast Abbey Wood were in attendance to do the catering! Although he was too young to be part of the craze at the time, Paul had always considered himself something of a ‘mod’. He was understandably over the moon with the theme of the party, even more so when he browsed our menus and saw that we had exciting options to suit not just two rival subcultures, but also meat-eaters and vegetarians! The DJ certainly had his work cut out trying to please everyone, but Hog Roast Abbey Wood had no issues in catering for everyone’s needs.
The birthday boy chose a menu, the guests chose a side, the DJ was stuck in the middle and we were on the side lines safe in the knowledge that we could make everyone happy in the food department! We were secretly a bit disappointed that the guests all arrived in taxis, rather than on scooters and motorbikes, but that was obviously the sensible option if they wanted to have a few drinks to wash down the hog roast birthday buffet! The guests didn’t disappoint when it came to their costumes however-on one side of the room Paul was leading the clean cut ‘mods in their sharp and stylish retro suits; on the other side was his wife Emma amid a sea of leather jackets and motorbike boots!
Happily Hog Roast Abbey Wood’s food managed to unite the rival gangs before a fight broke out, with our tempting and all-inclusive buffet, which included our signature hog roast, organic whole roasted chicken, a crispy Thai salad for those with exotic tastes and a classic Waldorf salad for the traditionalists, as well as several other vegetarian options. Even though the party guests were so busy enjoying the food that they forgot their differences, Paul didn’t mind because he was having such a good time! He thanked his wife Emma for throwing him such a great 40th birthday party (even if she was a rival rocker!) and he thanked Hog Roast Abbey Wood for providing delicious food to suit everyone’s tastes!
