Hog Roast Whitechapel – London Marathon!

Hog Roast Whitechapel were delighted to be asked to cater for around 50 athletes and guests at a post-London Marathon private party raising money for Macmillan Trust with food scheduled to be served around an hour after the iconic race finished.

The London Marathon was first run in 1981 and has become one of the most famous events in London attracting thousands of spectators and participants and we knew that this would be a challenging situation to set up in good time and in a restricted environment but planning and preparation was the key for this to work and we liaised closely with the event organisers to ensure that we could arrive and setup in time.  For this type of event, Hog Roast Whitechapel has six menus available all delivering excellent, high quality and delicious food which includes Slow Roasted Hog served in a Roll, Southern Slow Roast with both served with an option of a selection of salads and breads through to more formal dining and sit-down events.

It was clear that for this event, the atmosphere and the day lent itself to a very informal gathering and the organisers confirmed that the Slow Roasted Hog served in a Roll would be the most suitable option and with our gazebo erected, we set up our equipment and started the hog roasting.  Once this got going, plenty of interest was created with many spectators commenting on the amazing wafts of delicious aromas that were drifting around.  This was the warmest London Marathon on record and we knew that when the guests arrived that the heat would increase further as they saw and smelled the food that we had to offer.

There needed to be a little flexibility in the serving time as we needed to ensure that all guests had finished the race and this was built into the preparation and once all guests had arrived, we started serving and the athletes were definitely ready for it!  Many of them commented on the very high quality of the food and the way how we organised ourselves with most of them coming back for seconds… and thirds… and in some cases fourth servings; there was more than enough to go around and a jolly good time was had by all.
